Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-09-24
This policy explains what data the Lingoa app and the website www.lingoaapp.com process, why, and what your rights are.
1. Who is responsible
Lingoa is developed and operated by Quynh Dang, an individual developer based in Vantaa, Finland (the "data controller" under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). Contact for anything privacy-related: inquiries@tastiai.com
2. The short version
- Your conversation history stays on your phone. We don't store your conversation audio or transcripts on our servers.
- To translate, your words have to be processed by speech and translation services. Section 4 explains exactly which ones.
- We store only what's needed for your account, your free access, and your subscription.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
3. What the app processes
Speech (microphone). When you tap the microphone, your phone's own speech recognizer turns your voice into text: Apple Speech on iPhone, and usually Google's speech services on Android. These services may send the audio to Apple's or Google's servers to recognize it. Lingoa does not save recordings.
Text to translate. The recognized (or edited) text is sent to a machine translation service to be translated. The translated text is then read aloud. In the default online voice mode, the translated text is sent to a text-to-speech service to generate the audio, and the audio is kept only in a temporary cache on your phone. In offline voice mode, speech is generated on your device. We use established cloud providers for both, and we may change providers or fall back to another one if a service is unavailable.
Conversation history. The original and translated text of your conversations is saved only on your phone (up to 100 conversations). It is deleted when you clear your history or uninstall the app.
Account. If you sign in, we process your email address, the sign-in method you used (Apple or Google), and account/session identifiers. We also store your free-access (trial) status. Guests can use the app without an account.
Subscriptions. Purchase and subscription status and product identifiers, needed to unlock Pro and to restore purchases. Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
Analytics and diagnostics. App events and performance/crash data used to keep the app reliable, for example which language pair was used and how many characters were translated. We also use Microsoft Clarity to understand how people move through the app's screens. Clarity's recordings are text-masked, so they show how the app is used, not what is written on the screen.
Analytics does not include the words you say or translate.

If you'd like the names of the translation or text-to-speech providers we currently use, email us and we'll tell you.
Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by the EU Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, as offered by each provider.
5. Why we process data (legal bases under GDPR)
- To provide the app you asked for (translation, speech, account, free access, subscriptions): performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To keep the app reliable and secure (diagnostics, abuse prevention, basic usage analytics): our legitimate interest in running a working app (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- To meet legal obligations (e.g. accounting records for purchases): legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
6. How long we keep data
- Conversation history: on your phone only, until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Account and trial data: deleted immediately if you delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). If you request deletion by email instead, it's completed within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep something.
- Subscription records: as required by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and accounting law.
- Analytics: according to each provider's retention settings.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to answer you. "Notify me at launch" emails are deleted after the launch notification is sent.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Email inquiries@tastiai.com. We reply within one month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Finland, that's the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi), or the authority in your own EU country.
Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account — this deletes your account immediately. If you can't access the app, follow the steps at www.lingoaapp.com/delete-account instead, which takes up to 30 days.
California and other US states. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. You can make the requests above from any country.
Vietnam. If you are in Vietnam, you have rights under Vietnamese personal data protection law, including to be informed, to access, correct, and delete your data, and to withdraw consent. Contact us at the email above.
8. The website (www.lingoaapp.com)
The website doesn't use cookies and doesn't ask for personal data. We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to count visits and button clicks in aggregate. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify individual visitors. If you email us, for support or to be notified at launch, we use your email address only to reply and, if you asked, to send one launch notification.
9. Children
Lingoa is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. No system is completely risk-free.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
